BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudi piloted the first commercial flight for Deoghar on 30 July. Former Civil Aviation mInister Rudi along with captain Ashutosh Shekhar was part of crew that operated the maiden indigo flight from delhi to devghar.

The first commercial flight from Delhi to Deoghar in Jharkhand took off with several BJP leaders on board on the auspicious occasion of ongoing Shravan month. Several BJP lawmakers and Bhojpuri film stars such as Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Kishan, Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahua) and Godda MP Nishikant Dubey flew to Deoghar and offered prayers to Lord Shiva in who is known as Baba Baidyanath.

Built at a cost of Rs 400 crore, PM Modi inaugurated the Deoghar International Airport on July 12, 2022. On the same day, he also flagged off the Deoghar-Kolkata IndiGo flight from the new airport. With the inauguration of the second airport in Jharkhand, Deoghar can boast of having air connectivity with Ranchi, Patna, and Delhi. Government also plans to set up airports in Bokaro, Jamshedpur and Dumka.
The Deoghar airport has a 2,500-metre-long runway, which can handle the landing and takeoff of Airbus A320 planes. PM Modi had laid the foundation stone of Deoghar airport on May 25, 2018.

"We had long been nurturing the dream of Deoghar airport. It will boost employment and create new opportunities. I congratulate the citizens of Jharkhand. The new projects will also benefit Bihar and West Bengal,” the PM said.
The prime minister had laid foundation and inaugurated projects worth Rs 16,800 crore, including a 657-acre airport built at a cost of Rs 401 crore.

Deoghar is a well-known spiritual town and is home to Baba Baidyanath- a Lord Shiva shrine. It hosts one of the biggest month-long religious congregations during the holy month of Shrawan and witnesses a footfall of lakhs of devotees throughout the month. However, until July 12, the only ways to reach Deoghar were either by road or by train.
