"Bolo… wapas do, meri jaan.” Clad in fiery red, the gangster’s mistress tells the man she is in love with, dictating terms of affection he is too scared to say aloud. She does that, all the while pointedly holding a gun at him. The man, the gangster’s sidekick, asks her to give it back and then tries to overpower. She points the gun at the sky and pulls the trigger. She will not yield till he gives in. And he does. He repeats after her, aping the very tone she desires to be talked to in. And then she laughs, delighted at her own victory, till the man with the bruised ego slaps her right across her face and embraces her.

Maqbool is not only Vishal Bhardwaj’s first adaption of a Shakespeare play, but in many ways is the film that shaped the director’s oeuvre. Macbeth, much like other Shakespearian plays, gives a lot of weightage to the female character. In a play marked by a man’s uncontrollable and unrelenting march towards gaining power, it is Lady Macbeth who makes Macbeth aware of what he is capable of and also shows him the means to achieve it – by killing the King, Duncan. In a sharp departure, Bhardwaj’s Maqbool is posited in the murky underbelly of Mumbai’s underworld. Bhardwaj robs much of Lady Macbeth’s agency and legitimacy when he adapts her into Nimmi. A Muslim woman with a shady past, living with the mafia don Abbaji out of wedlock, Nimmi is a far more liminal figure than her literary counterpart. Bhardwaj, quite evidently, renders her even more powerless by placing her outside the domain of marriage. She is the mistress, and in turn a fallen woman.

When it comes to her fitness schedule, Kareena Kapoor Khan makes sure that it’s fun and rigorous. Recently, her fitness trainer Namrata Purohit shared a video on Instagram, that showed Khan working out with Purohit and Malaika Arora.

The ladies were seen engaging in various workouts, from basic lunges and squats to trainign with core stix and reformers.

While most of us are familiar with the advantages of squats and lunges, a few interesting equipments caught our eye.

In the video, we see the ladies take turns at a Pilates reformer. There are multiple benefits one can avail from it – helps in building muscular strength, flexibility and maintaining balance. It also helps relieve physical imbalances like back pain and further helps lose inches from thighs, waist and triceps and gain lean mass.

Purohit and Arora are also seen having a go at the Core Stix that are a set of weighted bars with a base. They let one build upon the usable strength and provide a full-body workout.

Here are some other benefits:

* It’s a full-body workout and one can engage in it both in an upright and seated position. This workout can be highly effective for wheelchair-bound persons who can remain seated and still work on their upper body strength.

* The resistance that Core Stix offers can be appropriated according to every person’s ability to take up challenging weights.

* These strengthen the lower body muscles and can reduce the chance of falling in older people. From assisted squats to resistant squats, one can customise them according to one’s need.

* Unlike traditional exercises, Core Stix combines both muscle strengthening and balance.

Starting the promotions of her upcoming movie, Sui Dhaga, Anushka Sharma seems to be on a sartorial tour these days. After her femme fatale avatar on the cover of a leading fashion magazine, the actor sought to tone down her look a little this time. We recently spotted her in a monochrome number–crop shirt and high-waisted flared pants–from Chola label.

The ruffle sleeves and the ribbon belt added interesting elements to her attire. Stylist Allia Al Rufai gave a sporty touch to the whole look with a pair of white sneakers, and the actor accessorised with a pair of earrings from Amrapali Jewels. She rounded out her look with nude make-up and a wispy hairdo.

For another promotional look, the actor picked an elaborately floral printed maxi dress from Pero. While we like the colourful piece, we wish the Al Rufai had cinched the actor’s waist with a belt to give some definition to the voluminous dress. Sharma accessorised with a pair of silver jhumkis from Amrapali Jewels and matching Fizzy Goblet jutis. She polished her look with nude make-up and her favoured wispy hairdo.

Earlier, we had seen the Pari actor on the cover of Femina, where she had looked dramatic and sultry in a bodysuit and a dress from Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna. Stylist Nayaab Randhawa layered the outfit with a sheer cover-up from Two Studio Two.
