Bilaspur : The 19 deaths in the road accident in Kawardha have been considered a public interest litigation by the Chief Justice of the High Court Ramesh Kumar Sinha. While hearing the case, the division bench has sought a reply with an affidavit from all the parties including the state government and the National Highway Road Transport (NHAI).

It has also been said that the Supreme Court has issued guidelines regarding road safety, a report of the action taken so far on it should also be presented. The next hearing of the case will be on June 26.

While conducting the preliminary hearing of this case on Friday, the division bench of the Chief Justice said that the way so many people were seated in the pickup and it overturned, it is a serious incident. Give an affidavit on what measures can the state government, NHAI, Transport Department and the parties including the Collector take to prevent such accidents.

During the hearing of the case, the division bench has also said that the Supreme Court has issued a guideline to stop the ever-increasing road accidents in the country, the state government should also submit a report on what action it has taken.

 The Road Safety Committee will be chaired by the Collector and Superintendent of Police, District Transport Officer, Medical and Health Officer as well as representatives of the Public Works Department and Highways Ministry. For urban limits, the Municipal Executive Officer will also be a part of the committee. Members of NGOs will also be included in the committee.
