Raipur: In a shocking incident near Tumdikasa village, about three kilometers from Manpur headquarters, a doctor was found brutally murdered and his dead body was hung from a tree on Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Bhagwat Giri Goswami, a resident of village Oteband in Durg district, who lived in Manpur area and practiced private medical practice. AS the area is considered to be naxalite influenced hence the doctor’s murder is also being thought of as a naxalite attack.
According to information received from local sources, on Saturday morning, the villagers saw the dead body of the young man tied around his body hanging from a tree along the state highway in Manpur. The incident was immediately reported to the police. The police, who arrived at the scene, removed the body from there and sent it for post - mortem.
Police is currently investigating the incident by registering a murder case against an unknown accused in the case. Locals said that the deceased Bhagwat was originally from Oteband village and had a run dispensary in Unchapur, a mountainous area of Manpur.
Being a stray Naxal area, this incident of murder is also being linked to the Naxalites. People working for basic facilities like health and education are often targeted by Naxalites. This incident of murder has created an atmosphere of fear among the villagers in the surrounding area.
The police at its level is interrogating. The Mohla-Manpur area of Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district is surrounded by dense forests and borders Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Naxalites have been active in this area for a long time and continue to carry out major violent incidents.
