Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane became father on Saturday after his wife Radhika Dhopavkar gave birth to a baby girl. Rahane woke up to the heartwarming news in Visakhapatnam wherein he is playing the first Test against South Africa. Rahane married his childhood friend Radhika in 2014. The two were school sweethearts before their parents met and arranged their marriage.
Rahane is the latest Indian cricketer who has become father to a baby girl. The likes of MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh himself, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and Hanuma Vihari are among the few who have a girl child.
Ajinkay Rahane is currently with Team India who have resumed Day 4 action of the first Test of a 3-match series against India. Rahane returned to form during the 2-match Test series against West Indies after the World Cup. While the Mumbai batsman did not make the World Cup squad, his return to form has come at the right time as India are hoping to dominate the inaugural edition of World Test Championships.
Notably, Radhika had taken to social media last week to post a photo of herself with a baby bump with an emotional message.
