Raipur: Polling for Chitrakoot assembly by-election is going on from 8 am today. It seems like voters are exercising their right well , by 3 pm 64 percent voting has been done already. As the CHitrakoot area is  Naxalite affected, strong security arrangements have been made. The police has recently had an encounter with Naxalites in Kondagaon, Bastar. However, there is no report of any casualty in it.

In Chitrakoot, 9 per cent polling  was done till 9 am, 16 per cent by 10 pm, 39.53 per cent till 12 pm , 56% by 2 pm. 

One lakh 67 thousand 911 voters can exercise their right in Assembly by-election. These include 79 thousand 284 male voters and 88 thousand 626 female voters as well as a third gender voters. 

Lachhuram Kashyap from BJP, Rajman Benzam from Congress, Hidoram Mandavi from Communist Party, Lakeshwar Kawasi from Ambedkar Right Party, Bomdaram Mandavi from Janata Congress Party and Independent candidate Ritika Karma are contesting for the post of MLA in the CHitrakoot by election. 

229 polling stations have been set up for Chitrakote assembly by-election. Of these, 213 polling stations are located in Bastar district and 16 polling stations are located in Sukma district. 916 polling personnel have been deployed for these polling stations. These include the presiding officer as well as three more polling party officials. To ensure fair and free voting, micro observers are also deployed in 58 sensitive polling stations.
