Raipur: There is a belief and tradition of Govardhan Puja in the state of Chhattisgarh after the Diwali festival. Gauthan Diwas will be celebrated on the day of Govardhan Puja in the Gauthans built under the ambitious Suraji village scheme of the state government. Necessary instructions have been given to all the collectors and chief executive officers of the state in connection with celebrating Gauthan day.

According to the directive issued, Gauthans have been built in selected villages under Suraji village scheme, where cattle come daily. The state government has decided to celebrate Gauthan Day in those Gauthans on the day of Govardhan Puja. Traditional worship will be performed in the program. In addition to this there will be the formation of Gauthan Seva Samiti and formal handover will also be done.

    Instructions have been given to open the accounts immediately in the banks of the Gauthan Committee so that the process of providing allotment in these accounts can be established from the month of November. If  a new location is selected and accepted, then the Bhoomi-Pujan will also be done before the Panchayat and the village on the Gauthan day.

  Instructions have also been given to ensure participation of all these self-help groups to the women self-help groups who work in Gauthan and who will be editing Gauthan functions with Gauthan Seva Samiti in future.
