RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh government has decided to put a full stop on the usage of plastic bottles and plastic ceiling caps for supplying and sale of liquor from DEcember 1, this year . The decision is followed after the campaign against single-use plastics .

The instruction regarding it has been issued to all processing and bottling units, beverage corporation, marketing corporation and the excise officers in every district of the state,said sources . 

the state excise department has taken a cognizant decision to discontinue usage of plastic bottles after observing the environment pollution and health hazards because of plastic usuage.

SO the bottles and  ceiling caps for local liquor and for the foreign ones will be replaced . The order placed will come into effect from December 1 this year, said an official.

Earlier the state governmenthad planned to sell out liqor in plastic bottles , this decision invited a lot of criticism from oppposition parties country wide.

When there is a national level campaign is in action against the single-use plastics, the state’s contradictory approach also displeased social activists and health experts. 

Liquor ban was one of the important promises made in the manifesto of Congress, during the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections –2018.

Environmental agencies and activists had earlier questioned as to how approval was given to sell liquor in plastic sachets without any scientific research on the possible impact of plastic.

Officials had then claimed to have faced an acute shortage of glass and began using plastic bottles for the liquor sale.
