New Delhi: Lord Rama killed Ravana on Vijaya Dashami after Shakti Puja in the nine-day Navratri ritual. As a symbol of this, the programme of Ravana Dahan will be held this evening in various parts of country.
The special events have been organized all over the country, in which effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhakarna will be burnt. Mahadevi Durga conquered Mahishasura on this day after a ten-day war.
President and Prime Minister have extended greetings to the countrymen.
In a message, the President has said, "On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens and wish them success, prosperity and happiness. This festival is a celebration of the triumph of truth over untruth. It inspires us to live by the timeless values of honesty and truthfulness. The life of Lord Rama is in essence a reflection of these values which remain as relevant today as ever. May this festival inspire us to work for the nation building and making a society that cares for the needy and the deprived."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami. PM Modi also shared a video to mark the festival of Dussehra.
