Congress seeks the number of EVMs and postal ballots be made public

RAIPUR: The opposition Congress on Saturday sought from the Chhattisgarh chief electoral officer to publicly declare the total number of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in various assembly constituencies by the Election Commission of India during the 2018 polls in the state.

The party has asked the figures on the how many EVMs, from among those received by the state, were distributed and sent to which places besides how many remaining received EVMs that were not utilised for the polls and kept aside.

The Congress also wished to know the district-wise and assembly segment-wise the details about the postal ballots — how many applications were received and the total postal ballots issued against these applications.

“Such information assumes significance in the wake of free and fair elections”, stated the party spokesperson Girish Dewangan who sought the information.
