Irrfan Khan, who is currently seeking cancer treatment in London, recently took to Facebook to share a note which said that he will no longer be a part of AIB’s upcoming Amazon Prime Video series Gormint, earlier titled Ministry.

“Ministry, now known as Gormint, the Amazon Video series I have been working on with the team at AIB, was one of my most favourite ongoing projects. After shooting for months and after having a ballistic time on set I discovered my now on-going physical condition. With a heavy heart, I would like to say that due to this ongoing situation, I will not be able to fulfill my acting commitment to the show,” wrote Irrfan.

He continued, “I am gutted by this development because the character and the show thrilled me, and I even lived with the character for several months before having to cut the journey short. But after extensive discussions, workarounds and sincere efforts by everyone involved, the situation prevents me from being able to do the show entirely. And thus, I must, at this time, exit stage left. I want to thank everyone involved in the project for their support and understanding. I still remain excited to see the final product and have complete faith in the creative team to deliver something that is unique and unseen in the Indian satire space so far. I wish them the same good luck and love that they have always wished for me.”

Boney Kapoor, along with his daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, attended a retrospective on Sridevi organised by the Films Division of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The event was an emotional affair with Janhvi breaking down at one point. At the event, filmmaker Boney was asked questions about his late wife and her craft.

“Today this vacuum, this void cannot be replaced but the good wishes and the goodwill that she has left behind is something that we can live with. She is with me, in my memories. With my children,” Boney told reporters. The filmmaker also opened up about how he first fell for Sridevi. He said, “I fell in love with her when I saw her for the first time on the screen. It was one-sided love since the beginning. I chased her in the sense that I went to Chennai to sign her but unfortunately, she was not available at that time. I was in awe of her, her work.”

Boney Kapoor said that Sridevi was extremely dedicated to her passion, which she pursued till her last breath. The producer said that the actor was unable to complete her education as she had been in front of the screen since she was a child. Boney also added that Sridevi deserves every accolade that has been bestowed upon her.

Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Gold sees him playing the character of Tapan Das. The man who scouts and finds the talent that would ultimately make the team that won independent India her first gold medal at the Olympics. While the film is a fictional story based on true events, it is yet to be seen how much the filmmakers have taken from the real story to make this sports drama.

Independent India’s first gold medal came from a field hockey team where the Indian team defeated Great Britain in the finals. Tapan Das, played by Akshay Kumar, seems roughly inspired by the man who is still regarded as the man who started the Olympic movement in India, Moin-ul-Haq.

Moin-ul-Haq was the chef-de-mission of the Indian Olympic contingent when India participated as a free country for the first time at the Olympics in 1948 in London. Even though the country was in much distress at the time, Moin-ul-Haq saw the potential and the opportunity that sports offered.

Hailing from Patna, Moin-ul-Haq was supportive of all sports. He would scout talent and nurture them, he would even encourage those who never played anything to pick up a sport.

Patna’s Moin-ul-Haq Stadium was renamed after him after he passed away in 1970. He was also honoured by the Government of India with a Padma Shri in 1970.

Moin-ul-Haq was not a player in the Olympics contingent, neither was he a coach, in fact he was the man who gave Indian sports a platform that they could eventually build upon.
